POLYPHENYLENE SULPHIDE (PPS): a semi-crystalline polymer belonging to the Polyaryl sulphide family. In the basic version it is not very tough, therefore it is always extruded with fillers and/or reinforcements.
It falls into the super technopolymer category as it has very particular technical characteristics: it is intrinsically self-extinguishing (class V0 according to UL94) and has excellent thermal resistance (it withstands prolonged use of temperatures >200°C and HDT (heat distortion temperature) >250°C) and chemical resistance (contact with chemical agents). In the versions with a high content of fillers/reinforcements the tribological characteristics are also improved (low friction and wear).
Particularly suitable for replacing metal components.
Given the high thermal characteristics, it is necessary to pay due attention in the choice of equipment and transformation settings.
